Summer Duvet from a German Manufacturer

A good summer duvet makes the difference between a warm summer night with sticky bedding and peaceful, dry sleep. BEFA has been manufacturing summer duvets since 1994 in Limburg an der Lahn — with fillings of goose down, Primaloft Bio, and Tencel. Each duvet is individually filled, and each cover is sewn in Germany. All summer duvets are Oeko-Tex Standard 100 and Downpass certified.

Which material suits which type of sleeper?

The choice of filling determines the sleeping climate on hot nights. Three materials are truly suitable:

• Goose down (90% or 100%): Very light, extremely breathable, quickly wicks moisture away. The classic summer down duvet has a filling weight of 250–400 g and keeps you pleasantly dry even at 25 °C room temperature. Downpass certification proves: no force-fed down, no live plucking.
• Tencel (Lyocell): Cellulose fiber from sustainably managed forests. Tencel absorbs up to 50% more moisture than cotton and releases it in a controlled manner. Ideal for heavy sweaters and allergy sufferers. At BEFA, combined with pure goose down for maximum lightness.
• Primaloft Bio: High-performance microfibre that is biodegradable. Vegan alternative to down. Washable at 60 °C, antibacterial, skin-friendly. The right choice for allergy sufferers who do not want animal filling.

What is the right size?

In Germany, 155x220 cm is the standard size for single duvets — sufficient freedom of movement, not too much overhang. For narrow beds, 135x200 cm is sufficient. Couples sharing a duvet opt for 200x200 cm or 200x220 cm. Those who sleep "Scandi-style" in a double bed (two separate duvets) take two 135x200 or two 155x220.

Filling weight: How light should a summer duvet be?

Typical filling weights for summer duvets range between 200 g and 500 g (for 155x220 cm). As a rough guide:

• 200–300 g down: very hot nights, room temperature above 22 °C
• 300–400 g down: standard summer, 18–22 °C
• 400–600 g down: cool summer nights, air-conditioned rooms, transitional season

Summer duvet for heavy sweaters

Those who sweat a lot at night benefit from natural fibers with high moisture transport. Microfiber without bio-modification does not wick away sweat — the moisture remains between the skin and the cover. Down, Tencel, and Primaloft Bio work differently: they absorb moisture, store it briefly, and then release it into the room air. Summer duvet for allergy sufferers

House dust mite allergy sufferers need duvets that can be washed at a minimum of 60 °C. At BEFA, all Primaloft Bio models and the NOMITE-certified down and feather duvets meet this requirement. Care: How often to wash, at what temperature?
